What drives daytime deer movement
Whitetails move on a daily feeding rhythm anchored to the moon. The two major periods (moon overhead and underfoot) and two minor periods (moonrise and moonset) mark when deer are most likely to travel between bedding and food. Stack one of those on the low light of dawn or dusk and you have the morning or evening worth burning vacation on.
Planning the sit
- Find the overlap. Scan the timeline for a period touching sunrise or sunset.
- Don’t skip “Poor” rut days. In November, breeding trumps the solunar calendar.
- Be in position early. Movement builds into a feeding period, not after it.
