When game moves: the solunar windows
The same feeding rhythm that switches on a fish’s appetite nudges deer, elk, and other game out of bedding areas. Each day has two major periods (moon overhead and underfoot) and two minor periods (moonrise and moonset). The highest-odds sits are the ones where a period stacks on top of the low light at dawn or dusk.
Reading the forecast for the stand
- Hunt the overlaps. A major or minor period within an hour of sunrise or sunset earns a dawn/dusk bonus in our rating.
- Sit midday on big-moon days. Around the full moon, a midday major period can move deer.
- Respect the rut. In the peak rut, mature bucks move on their own schedule regardless of moon phase.
